Metal Scrap Briquetting Machine Consultation in Dubai, UAE

ENERPAT recently conducted an on-site pre-sales consultation with a metal recycling operator in Dubai, UAE, to assess a metal scrap briquetting machine for reducing material volume and transportation costs.

The customer operates a metal recycling facility with an existing cleaning line and several lid-style metal balers. Its current process involves cleaning recyclable materials before selling them to buyers in international markets. However, the cost of exporting materials, particularly to the United States, has created a need for more efficient scrap densification.

Rather than investing in another baler, the customer is considering a standalone Metal Chips Briquetting Press to complement its existing operation. The discussion focused on the proposed 4015 model, processing capacity, briquette specifications, potential freight savings and return on investment (ROI).

BM-4015 Metal Scrap Briquetting Machine: Capacity and Specifications

During the consultation, ENERPAT introduced the BM-4015 metal scrap briquetting machine as a potential solution for the customer's material densification requirements.

The proposed machine features a 400-tonne compression force and a target processing capacity of approximately 450 kg/h. The discussed briquette specifications include a diameter of 150 mm and a thickness range of 70–200 mm.

The final configuration and achievable throughput will depend on the actual material composition, condition, bulk density and feeding characteristics. Material testing will therefore be required to verify the machine's suitability for the application.

A hydraulic metal scrap briquette machine compresses suitable loose metal materials into compact, dense briquettes. Compared with handling loose scrap, briquetting can reduce material volume, improve storage efficiency and make transportation more manageable.

For recycling operators processing significant volumes of metal scrap, this approach may help improve material handling and logistics efficiency without replacing existing baling equipment.

Reducing Scrap Volume to Lower Export Shipping Costs

Transportation cost reduction was the main business objective discussed during the visit.

The customer already operates several Lid Style Automatic Scrap Metal Balers and has ordered an additional unit from another supplier. Its existing baling capacity is therefore not the primary concern. Instead, the customer is evaluating whether a metal scrap briquetting machine can further densify suitable materials and improve shipping efficiency.

The proposed solution is intended to complement the current recycling process rather than replace the existing metal balers.

Depending on the material and shipping arrangements, increasing bulk density may improve container utilization and reduce the volume required to transport a given quantity of scrap. Actual savings will depend on material density, shipment weight limits, container dimensions, loading methods and freight rates.

To support the purchasing decision, ENERPAT will prepare a customized ROI assessment based on the customer's operating data.

The assessment will consider:

  • Material characteristics: Type, condition and quantity of scrap processed after cleaning.

  • Densification performance: Briquette dimensions, achievable density and volume reduction established through testing.

  • Shipping efficiency: Current loading practices, container utilization and shipment frequency.

  • Potential freight savings: Estimated transportation cost differences under comparable shipping conditions.

  • Investment payback: Equipment investment, operating costs and projected savings.

The objective is to determine whether a metal scrap briquetting machine can deliver a measurable financial benefit under the customer's actual operating conditions.

Scrap Metal

Metal Scrap Briquetting Machine vs. Lid-Style Metal Baler

During the consultation, ENERPAT reviewed the customer's existing equipment and clarified the role of a metal scrap briquetting machine within the current recycling operation.

Although both machines use hydraulic force to compress recyclable materials, they serve different applications.

A lid-style metal baler compresses suitable loose or bulky metal scrap into rectangular bales. It is commonly used in scrap yards and metal recycling facilities to reduce the volume of materials such as aluminium scrap, steel offcuts and other suitable metal waste.

A metal scrap briquetting machine, by comparison, compresses suitable metal materials into compact briquettes, often with a cylindrical shape. Depending on the feed material, briquetting can improve material density and simplify handling, storage and transportation.

For this project, the customer is evaluating a standalone metal scrap briquetting machine to complement its existing lid-style metal balers.

The final recommendation will depend on the material to be processed. Not every type of metal scrap is suitable for briquetting, so testing representative samples is essential before confirming the equipment configuration.

Additional Metal and Plastic Recycling Equipment

Beyond the main metal briquetting application, the consultation identified other equipment categories relevant to the customer's recycling operations.

Metal Chip Briquetting Machine

A metal chip briquetting machine is designed for suitable metal machining chips, turnings and swarf. Depending on the material, the process can reduce loose chip volume and facilitate handling or recovery of residual cutting fluids.

If the customer's material includes machining chips or similar residues, ENERPAT can assess whether a dedicated metal chip briquetting machine would be appropriate.

Metal Chip Crusher and Metal Chip Wringing Machine

A single shaft  metal chip shredder reduces suitable metal chips into smaller, more manageable pieces before downstream processing. A metal chip wringing machine removes residual cutting oil from suitable metal chips, helping recover the oil for appropriate collection and management.

These machines may be relevant to machining waste recycling operations, but their suitability for this project would need to be assessed separately based on the actual feed material.

Plastic Shredder and Plastic Baling Machine

The customer also operates two plastic processing lines, where conveyors feed plastic materials directly into existing processing equipment before the material is sold.

Depending on the plastic type and required output, a plastic shredder may be considered for size reduction, while a plastic baler machine can compact suitable plastic waste to reduce storage and transportation volume.

ENERPAT can review these applications separately to determine whether additional plastic recycling equipment could improve processing efficiency or logistics performance.

Material Testing and After-Sales Support

Reliable equipment performance and responsive technical support were important considerations during the consultation.

ENERPAT proposed free material testing at its factory, subject to sample availability and technical assessment. The customer can provide representative samples of its cleaned material for testing to evaluate briquette formation, density and volume reduction.

Test results, photographs and operating videos can help establish realistic performance expectations before the equipment configuration is finalized.

ENERPAT also introduced its warranty arrangements, remote technical assistance and spare parts recommendations. Where required, on-site engineering support can be assessed according to the project location and service requirements.

For international metal recycling operations, these arrangements are important parts of the overall equipment evaluation. The long-term value of a metal scrap briquetting machine depends not only on its initial price, but also on operating reliability, maintenance requirements and the ability to achieve the intended processing results.

Next Steps: ROI Assessment and Equipment Evaluation

Following the visit, ENERPAT will collect additional information about the customer's material, cleaning process, operating schedule and site layout.

The next steps include:

  1. Preparing a customized ROI assessment based on the customer's material throughput and shipping data.

  2. Sending the 4015 metal scrap briquetting machine specifications, operating videos and relevant application references.

  3. Reviewing the equipment configuration and updated quotation with the internal technical and sales teams.

  4. Arranging material testing to evaluate briquette density and volume reduction.

  5. Continuing discussions about a potential equipment demonstration location in the UAE and a future visit to the ENERPAT factory in China.

The customer also expressed interest in potentially using its Dubai facility as a local demonstration location for ENERPAT equipment. Further discussions will be needed to determine a suitable cooperation model.
