Helping an Aluminum Recycler Improve Processing Efficiency

When recycling facilities encounter equipment failures or production bottlenecks, selecting the right replacement equipment is critical to restoring productivity and improving operational efficiency.

To better understand the customer's processing challenges, the ENERPAT team visited an aluminum recycling facility in Los Angeles, California, providing on-site technical consultation for a Hammer Mill and Trommel Screen solution tailored to the customer's production requirements.

Customer Background

The customer is an established aluminum recycling company located in Los Angeles, California, specializing in the recovery and processing of aluminum scrap from industrial manufacturing and recycling operations.

As production volumes continued to increase, the customer began evaluating equipment upgrades to improve material preparation and maintain stable downstream processing.

Customer Requirements

During the site visit, the customer introduced its existing production process and explained several operational challenges affecting daily production.

Removing Oversized Metal Components

The aluminum scrap stream contains a significant number of large metal parts mixed with loose aluminum scrap.

Before downstream processing, these oversized components must be removed efficiently to protect equipment and improve material quality.

The customer is looking for a screening solution capable of processing approximately 6 tonnes per hour.

Existing Hammer Mill Failure

The facility's primary Hammer Mill had experienced a major mechanical failure and was no longer operating normally.

As a result, the entire hammer mill recycling system had been running below capacity, while the downstream vibrating separation system also suffered from poor operating efficiency, creating additional production bottlenecks.

On-Site Equipment Inspection

After arriving at the customer's facility, the ENERPAT team inspected the existing processing equipment together with the customer's operations manager.

The current material handling system utilizes both a wheel loader and a forklift for feeding operations.

Following the equipment inspection, both teams discussed:

  • Existing production workflow

  • Material characteristics

  • Current processing capacity

  • Equipment operating conditions

  • Future production plans

  • Budget expectations

To help the customer better understand available solutions, ENERPAT also presented several successful recycling projects and equipment application videos from similar aluminum recycling facilities.

Equipment Recommendation

Based on the customer's production requirements, ENERPAT initially recommended a high-capacity Hammer Mill Aluminium Recycling Shredder capable of restoring crushing efficiency and supporting future production growth.

After reviewing the preliminary investment, the customer expressed concerns regarding the overall equipment cost.

To provide a more economical alternative, ENERPAT introduced a Trommel Screen solution for efficiently separating oversized metal components before downstream processing, helping improve overall material flow while reducing equipment investment.

A detailed technical proposal, equipment specifications and quotation will be prepared after further engineering evaluation.
